That’s according to a report from pop culture site The Illuminerdi, which claims the actor was offered the role after it was turned down by Matthew McConaughey.
One person not involved with the show is former True Detective star Mahershala Ali, whom geek websites on Wednesday had pegged as having an offer. Ali did circle the role, say sources, but a deal ever came to fruition.
It was rumored and now it’s been confirmed. J.J. Abrams is developing a new take on “Constantine,” with the planned series being set up at HBO Max, Deadline reports today.
Guy Bolton is set to write the project, and the site notes that it’s a “darker reboot.”
The series “will see John Constantine as a young Londoner.” Deadline also notes in their report that “the character is set to be cast as a diverse lead.”
