- The PlayStation Studios head is centrally located to orchestrate expansion efforts, coordinating the work of some 4,000 developers across 19 studios from Japan to California.
- I want to look at our professionals as people that can have balanced long term careers with proper career progression," Hulst says.
- Hulst says his teams are trying to tackle the issue with nuance. He floated that an experienced art director might decide they want to work a Saturday to polish something. "Am I going to say no? Well, it's a bit more complex, because what if his entire team then feels obliged to also go in? So what that means is that we need to have that conversation with the art director and say: 'That's about the game. But there's also your team.'"
- In March, Sony's live ops effort with racing game Gran Turismo 7 hit a snag after it had to correct an unpopular update tied to virtual car prices. "We've got to listen and learn and react quickly," Hulst says of the experience. "That's what we're learning."
- We are also considering cross-play between both console and mobile, and Savage Game Studios, which recently joined PS Studio, is also developing a AAA-class live service action game.
- As for mobile, we believe that developing titles that are suitable for mobile and realizing cross-play between console and mobile is also an important initiative. For mobile-first IP, we would like to actively launch on mobile.
- There are several studios using Guerrilla Games' Decima engine.
Mal ne Frage, da ich bald mein Steam Deck bekomme und man bei Steam ja auch die Sony Titel kaufen kann: bieten die Cross Save mit den PS-Versionen? Das wäre ziemlich göttlich!
“A key part of our global expansion strategy is to meet consumers wherever they are, which is why we’re excited to enhance both Disney+ and Star+ for PlayStation 5 users,” said Jerrell Jimerson, Disney Streaming’s EVP of Product & Design, in a release. “The ability to support 4K HDR video streaming on the platform will also improve the viewing experience for fans.”
Our source has told us that Sony were in negotiations with Valve about Half-Life Alyx for a long time before reaching a settlements. The game has been exclusive for most PC-compatible VR headsets but Sony has bought the rights to have it published in 2023.
According to our source it will not be released alongside the VR2 launch. And it’s unknown if it’s going to be a remaster or an upgraded deluxe version of Half-Life Alyx. Our source has been provided with genuine, real leaked information before. However, as date changes and cancellations are common in the gaming world, nothing is set in stone.
As for what Haven is working on, Olson demonstrated a differentiable rendering tool that takes a 3D model of a human head in a photorealistic style and alter the image based on a user prompt, whether it be "evil clown," "aquatic alien," or "werewolf." He cautioned there were still a number of hurdles to be cleared before any such output would be realistically usable by the development team, but he was clearly enthusiastic about the future potential.
She acknowledged Haven's roots at Stadia, and while she said the team was excited about what the cloud could do for the end user experience, she was more keen on what it could do for game engines and dev tools. She said she sees experiments with machine learning in game development in much the same way.
Cerny was particularly interested in how tools like Olson demonstrated could be used to create lots of content quickly that may not be "directly publishable AAA content," but is good enough to get an idea across.
He also echoed Olson's point about the potential for such tools to be used for unique customized content, saying, "What's important is that you're expressing your individuality as a player and it's a little bit less important whether a serious artist would look at that and say, 'You know we could do a little bit better over here.'"
Raymond concluded: "Our north star at Haven is creating a new IP that can be owned by the fans, where the fans are really driving that. Once you launch a service game, the fans do take over. And what does that mean, and where can we bring that, if we can get these tools to the players?"
Production of the new detachable disc drive console is expected to start in April 2023, with the console hitting the market in September of that year, sources said.
It was said that Sony aims to sell 18 million consoles in FY22 and 30.5 million in FY23, just shy of a 70% increase YoY.
12 million of the 30.5 million consoles in FY23 will be of the “old PlayStation 5”, with that console completely ceasing production by the holiday of 2023.
It’s believed that the new detachable disc drive PlayStation 5 is a means to reduce production costs. Moving forward, the company will only need to manufacture one console but have the two price points of the digital and disc versions.
