Early in June, we flew out to Tokyo, Japan, to visit From Software to be the first people in the world to see Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon. While the AC series has been with From for its entire history as a game developer, and has a passionate fanbase, compared to the Soulsborne games, this is a step back to an incredibly niche series. One From is now trying to bring to its massive audience.

Video editor Alex Van Aken and I have seen around two hours of the game and interviewed multiple people on the development and publishing side for our ten-page cover story, diving into the history of the series, why From is returning to Armored Core after ten years away, and what players can expect. Spoiler alert: they shouldn't expect a Souls game.

und die previews durften dann eben auch online gehen.

Recently we were given an opportunity to travel to L.A. to play Armored Core 6 in person with FromSoftware and Bandai Namco. We also were given an opportunity to pilot a real-life mech which was pretty cool. And in this video, I want to talk about our impressions from that event and tell you what we think about Armored Core 6 so far and what you can expect when the game comes out next month August 25th.

Brad got to spend a few hours piloting some mechs and changing up his builds, and he comes back to tell us about how it feels to take down some truly gigantic machines.

Movement and combat in the starting, bipedal mech is a joy. Aside from taking off, which drains your batteries in seconds even if you're carrying minimal weight, you can rocket-skate for a much smaller energy cost, and this quickly becomes the only way to travel. The visual execution is wonderful: smaller manoeuvring spurt in all directions as your mech's body and limbs angle believably against surfaces. And what surfaces they are: dockfronts layered with overlapping roads, frozen lakes and tunnels packed with shipping crates that burst underfoot like piles of leaves.

In Armored Core VI, you're able to fully customize and swap out the body parts, core, weapons, boosters, defensive mechanisms, and weight class of your AC. Continually customizing your AC can be essential to survival. For example, at times, you might need access to faster mobility, meaning Schnieder legs and their high-jumping and speed capabilities are a must. Other times you may need the Caterpillar tank legs to support a massive load of heavy weaponry and armor to keep you in the fray against a sea of enemies. Armored Core VI gives you the freedom to take on missions with whichever parts combinations you need to get the job done (while also looking aesthetically pleasing doing so).

edit: tl;dw:
- sehr große auswahl an verschiedenen waffensystemen
