Here at Team Ninja, we are incredibly excited to introduce our very latest action RPG game which takes you on an epic and unfettered journey as a Ronin at the dawn of a new era in Japan. It was seven years ago when we first began this project. And since then, the development has progressed slowly and freely, much like the spirit of a Ronin. It is with great pleasure to finally bring this title to light, and we are filled with gratitude on being able to make this announcement with PlayStation who have supported us and this project throughout these many years.

Rise of the Ronin is a combat focused open-world action RPG that takes place in Japan at a time of great change. It is the very end of a 300-year long Edo Period, commonly known as “Bakumatsu”. Set in the late 19th century, Japan is facing the darkest of times as it struggles with its oppressive rulers and deadly diseases while western influence permeates as civil war continues to rage between the Tokugawa Shogunate and the Anti-Shogunate factions.

Here in this time of mayhem, you embody a Ronin character, a warrior bound to no master and free to make choices of its own. Rise of the Ronin is a new Team Ninja experience that will immerse you in an historically inspired world while bringing together its renowned combat action with Katanas and the likes, with new firearm weaponry that depicts the unique personality of its time period.

We at Koei Tecmo, have had many titles in the past that were based on history. But with Rise of the Ronin, we set out to take the next big step. By harnessing all the skills and knowledge we’ve gained over the years we really wanted to take things to the next level by attempting to thoroughly portray the most critical revolution in the history of Japan including the darkest and ugliest chapters that many will shy away from. This is undoubtedly the most ambitious and challenging project for Team Ninja Studio to date. Yet we will allow our experience in creating samurai and ninja action games to guide us through this journey.

Beyond the action elements, we will be steadfast in our efforts to create a multilayered story that showcases the world of the Bakumatsu period and the revolution that took place. The characters that you will meet all have their own brand of justice and motivations, and whether you decided to side with or against them… each decision you make will matter. With new combat action and unrestrained open gameplay, we are looking forward to setting you free as you immerse yourself as a Ronin.

Ohooooooo toll

Läuft natürlich vom Setting her so ein bisschen auf den Spuren von GoT, aber wesentlich weniger malerisch. Dennoch sehen aber zumindest die Landschaften schon mal ganz zauberhaft aus. Bin dabei!

Sind das jetzt mit dem Yakuza Ishin zusammen einfach mal zwei neue Samurai-Spiele, in denen der Protagonist einen Revolver hat? Dachte erst da sind irgendwie die Screenshots verwechselt worden...

Bin gespannt, was für eine Richtung von Open World wir hier bekommen. Ist glaub ich sogar das erste Projekt von Team Ninja mit einer Open World oder? Mag zwar zb Nioh 2 sehr, aber ich finde irgendwie geht in den abgeschlossenen Abschnitten mein Erkundungsdrang und generell bisschen Immersion verloren, weshalb ich klassische Souls-Welten eher bevorzuge.

Ich hab den Titel wieder total vergessen gehabt und mich dann erst mal wieder diebisch gefreut, dass das nächstes Jahr auf uns wartet. Das Setting geht einfach immer und so langsam ist GoT auch so lange her, dass es sich für mich wieder frisch anfühlt.

laut einem aktuellen leak auf reddit ist der titel für das erste quartal 2024 angepeilt.

abseits davon:
- gameplay soll ein mix aus ghost of tsushima und dark souls (wahrscheinlich eher nioh) sein
- fromsoft-artige lore beschreibungen bei items
- eine vielzahl an nebenmissionen in der open world (hallo ubisoft)
- schwierigkeitsgrad optionen
- 30fps und 60fps modus
- es gibt wohl optionale romanzen

Ja, Karte und Schwierigkeitsgrade weisen darauf hin, dass man sich hier etwas mehr dem Mainstreammarkt öffnen will. Erst einmal schade, aber habe trotzdem großes Vertrauen in das Kampfsystem.

Ein gutes Kampfsystem hat ja erstmal nix mit einen knüppelharten Schwierigkeitsgrad zu tun...

Ich finde es gut dass man den Schwierigkeitsgrad skalieren kann... wenn ein Spiel damit "nicht mehr funktioniert", wie ja viele Soul-Fans immer behaupten, dann ist es schlicht kein gutes Spiel.

Hmm... irgendwie sagt mir das so gar nicht zu. Sehr viele sehr komische Dinge in dem Spiel...

Freu mich schon sehr darauf. Die Präsentation schmeichelt dem Spiel imo nicht unbedingt, dass muss man sicher erleben und auf sich wirken lassen.

Sah irgendwie nicht mal halb so gut aus wie das fast 4 Jahre alte Ghost of Tsushima, das noch auf einer über 10 Jahre alten Hardware lief.

Das dachte ich mir ehrlich gesagt auch... aber auch jenseits der Optik hat mir das Gameplay nicht wirklich zugesagt. Das wirkte irgendwie so hektisch und hakelig. Auch da wirkt Ghost of Tsushima stimmiger.

Aber am meisten haben mir so Sachen wie der Gleitschirm, Flammenwerfer und Monster gestört... da hab ich irgendwie was bodenständigeres erwartet.

Also es sollte keinen Fantasy-Elemente beinhalten. Demnach also auch keine Monster.
