scheinbar sind previews für nächste woche im anmarsch. es war jedenfalls einige journalisten, content creator & co. zu besuch beim studio.


und lost in cult teasert etwas für den 12. november um 19:00 uhr an, wird aber merch sein (artbooks usw.), könnte aber da dann auch der termin für die previews sein.

In Zwischensequenzen schaut das ja echt schick aus... aber im Gameplay hat das nichts zu suchen.
Ich hoffe die Animationen sind dann dafür aber auch ausgelegt... manche Animationen, z.B. die Kleidung in den Gameplay-Videos wirkt so als ob es nur zwei Animations-Phasen gibt.

hat 2 monate vor release nochmal eine welle an previews bekommen.

If, at its core, it continues to offer a straightforward action platformer, then its setting, plot and art style may be the elements that elevate it above other typical examples of the genre. Sometimes it’s fine for the journey to be a simple one, if the scenery along the way is what catches your eye.

Of course, this was a one-hour bite of what will hopefully be a much larger game, and so if South of Midnight doesn’t go on to mix up either its setting or its mechanics, there’s a risk it may eventually outstay its welcome before the credits roll.

So far things are looking very positive but – if you’ll forgive me for bringing things full circle – when it comes to the full release on April 8, the final proof will, as ever, be in the playing.

South of Midnight is, in essence, the exact sort of experience Microsoft Gaming needs right now. After a generation cycle that's been largely defined by its fits and starts, the Xbox Series X is about to receive an adventure that is quite unlike any other – a big idea that's being delivered with bold, fearless execution. While my concerns of repetitious activity do remain, particularly with respect to the power of that core narrative loop and the scale of combat encounters over time, there is every chance that Compulsion will rise to meet the moment here with its first Xbox exclusive since the acquisition.

After five years of development, South of Midnight is content locked – the studio focused entirely on polishing the game ahead of its release on April 8, 2025. It's enough to put studio founder in Guillaume Provost in a reflective mood. "One of the reasons I was drawn to South of Midnight as a concept is that the setting isn't one that you typically see in video games."

"That has always been a priority for the studio. Whether it's from a mechanical, story, or a setting standpoint, we want to create video games that have a distinct voice, and that people can see it, and recognise it for what it is immediately. This team is hungry for making things that spell out our love for the craft," says Provost. "I feel confident about where we are with South of Midnight, and I can't wait to get it out into the world."

South of Midnight certainly has the vibes down. As someone who was raised in and explored the South for many years, I found myself caught up in the game’s swampy atmosphere, thick with kudzu and Spanish moss. The game’s audio is spot on; the constant drone of frogs and cicadas transported me back to a time and place that felt authentic. That was kind of a surprise, given that Compulsion is headquartered in Montreal. This is all to say that it appears that South of Midnight’s developers have put in the work, and I’m excited to see and play more of Hazel’s story this spring.

This is Compulsion’s first attempt at building a game with all of the resources and attention that Xbox provides, and the studio has crafted a beautiful, mysterious world with an ambitious mechanical conceit and a badass protagonist. The stop-motion effect is still hit-or-miss, but that doesn’t detract from the game’s other successes. I remain incredibly stoked on South of Midnight.

Wie sieht das den auf den anderen Plattformen aus, spart sich Microsoft da auch die physischen Versionen?
Hab die Herangehensweise gar nicht so verfolgt auf den anderen Plattformen.

sie haben halt anfang letzten jahres das physical media team gefeuert und danach die sachen an dritte (u.a. limited run games) abgegeben.

so welche meldungen bezüglich fehlenden disc versionen seitens xbox sind da leider nicht mehr überraschend.
