It's mere hours until Crimson Desert finally unlocks and only at that point will we be able to have some idea of how the game operates on the standard PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles. We do still have access to the PS5 Pro version, however, and in choosing the quality mode for this playthrough, you'll get to see how that native resolution checks out - presented in 4K HDR for those with compatible screens. Meanwhile, John Linneman shares his impressions and reactions to review critiques as he plays through the game across 48 minutes.
Crimson Desert just launched yesterday to a bit of a chaotic and mixed reception from critics. That hasn't hampered its sales, but those two million players are starting to stumble into some concerning issues in their first day in Pywel, including the presence of what some are saying may be AI-generated art assets.
A number of threads have popped up around social media of players questioning the human authenticity of certain art assets, specifically signs and paintings around the game.
Spielt jetzt jemand hier? Ich finde einiges aus den gesehenen Videos interessant, aber ich mag dann doch ne Story. Bin daher unentschlossen. Vielleicht doch lieber endlich Witcher 3 durchspielen?
There's no shortage of modes and toggles in developer Pearl Abyss' console release of Crimson Desert - and we try them all in its PS5 and PS5 Pro form today. Despite offering so many ways to play it's clear that base PS5 struggles to find one definitive setup, between its 30, 40 and 60fps modes. VRR helps however, as does the availability of a balanced mode with 30fps cap. The greater GPU grunt of the PS5 Pro however does give us more flexibility where performance is concerned - plus it's bundled with support for Sony's new PSSR upscaler. Tom covers every detail in this first round of console coverage - with Xbox to follow soon.
